Perplexity is treating creator marketing less like a sponsorship machine and more like a product demonstration team.
As Digiday reports, the AI company recently advertised for a creator-marketing executive, although the listing is no longer accepting applications and Perplexity says the role was a backfill rather than a newly created function.
The brief still reveals where the company wants creator activity to go. The role covered campaigns involving more than 100 creators, multi-million-dollar budgets, deal negotiation and a direct relationship with growth marketing. The success metric was not simply reach. Perplexity wanted creator work tied to conversion.
That changes the job. Creators would not just explain why Perplexity is interesting. They would need to show what it can actually do, including reviewing original “builds” made with Perplexity Computer. The reported salary range was $175,000 to $225,000, suggesting the company sees this as a serious operating function rather than a loose influencer brief.
The trust problem is part of the campaign
Perplexity says it works with hundreds of influencers, from niche creators to names such as Lewis Hamilton and Joe Rogan. But scale alone will not solve the harder problem: many creators see AI as a technology that could threaten parts of their livelihoods.
