Artificial intelligence is predicted to transform many industries, but for Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas, the iPhone is not one of the products that will be displaced by the AI wave.
On the contrary, he believes that the technology will actually make Apple’s flagship device more relevant and more important in the user’s life.
In his discussion on the podcast This Week in AI, Srinivas insists that AI will not “disrupt” the iPhone, but rather expand its role into something much bigger: a personal digital passport.
According to him, as AI advances, the iPhone will evolve from just a communication tool to a digital identity center that stores various aspects of the user’s life.
iPhone Is Said to Become a “Digital Passport”
Srinivas explained that the iPhone already stores very personal and important data, ranging from health records, digital wallets, to thousands of valuable photos.
The device is also a communication hub through calls and FaceTime. Because of this, the iPhone is not just a smartphone, but the main node of a person’s digital life.
“The iPhone is evolving into a digital passport for its users,” said Srinivas. He assessed that this position is difficult to replace by other technologies, including AI itself.
In fact, according to him, the more advanced AI, the greater the value of the iPhone as a device that connects user identity, data, and interactions in one ecosystem.
