Perplexity AI has reported a sharp jump in revenue, reaching $500 million after growing fivefold, even as it kept headcount expansion relatively modest.
CEO Aravind Srinivas said the company scaled revenue from $100 million to $500 million while increasing its team size by just 34%, pointing to the efficiency gains possible with AI-led operations.
The growth comes as Perplexity positions itself as a lean, AI-native company in an increasingly competitive search market dominated by larger technology players.
The company has also been pushing its latest product shift, “Perplexity Computer,” an agentic system designed to integrate multiple AI tools into a single workflow. The platform combines files, memory, and applications, allowing different AI models to work together on specific tasks.

Unlike relying on a single model, the system uses a multi-model approach, with around 19 specialised models handling different functions such as reasoning, coding and writing. The idea is to mirror how traditional computers run multiple programs for different tasks.
Founded in 2022, the startup has seen its valuation climb significantly.
