Thousands Oracle employees were recently laid off as part of a workforce reduction that analysts estimate could affect up to 30,000 workers. The cuts are reportedly tied to funding the expansion of the company’s AI data center. The scale alone makes it a significant event for the workforce. But it’s the terms Oracle offered and the way Oracle delivered the news that are most scrutinized by hiring managers.
Affected employees received an email signed by “Oracle Leadership” and were immediately locked out of internal systems when the notifications were sent out at 6 a.m. ET, it said HR manager Reporting. The message cited “Oracle’s current business needs” and “broader organizational changes” without elaboration.
The approach is contrasted with the how Block CEO Jack Dorsey managed the recent reduction of more than 4,000 employees in his company. Dorsey personally addressed employees in communications, shared severance details with them, and ensured that all employees learned at the same time…
