oracle has told the government it plans to cut around 150 Irish jobs, about 15 per cent of its workforce in the Republic. This is part of a global retrenchment program reported in March as the software giant grapples with an associated cash crunch Artificial Intelligence (AI) Expenditure.
The Enterprise Ministry confirmed it had received a mass layoff notice from Oracle, which employs around 1,000 people in the Republic. The ministry does not typically confirm the extent of any cuts.
Oracle, which was contacted for comment, is said to have begun its statutory 30-day consultation period with employees affected by the announcement on Wednesday.
About 150 jobs are expected to be eliminated, with the cuts largely focused on engineering and technical functions, although some sales, consulting, finance and administrative functions are also said to be in the firing line.
Once the cuts are confirmed, they are expected to be implemented in the summer, it is said.
