Oracle has revealed its intention to invest over $1 billion in opening a new cloud region in Madrid, Spain, emphasizing on boosting AI skills development in the country. This move will allow Oracle customers and partners in Spain to transfer their important workloads from data centers to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, benefiting from low-latency access to cloud services and enhanced data value, high availability, and disaster recovery features.

This investment is designed to support both public and private sector organizations in Spain in migrating various workloads to the cloud, updating their applications, and fostering innovation with data, analytics, and AI technologies. José Luis Escrivá, Minister of Digital Transformation and Public Administration of the Government of Spain, commended Oracle’s investment, recognizing its potential to spur innovation and digital transformation in Spain’s business landscape.

Miguel López-Valverde, Councilor for Digitalization of the Government of the Community of Madrid, emphasized the significance of public-private collaboration in advancing cloud infrastructure in the region.
