What happened: oracle (ORCL) and CoreWeave (CRWV) spoke out in favor of OpenAI on the following Tuesday the Wall Street Journal reported that the AI developer recently missed revenue and user targets, again raising concerns about overspending in the industry.
Stock market reaction: Shares of companies working with OpenAI fell after the report signaled that OpenAI’s business was slowing. Software giant Oracle and data center provider CoreWeave led the losses, falling nearly 4% and 5%, respectively.
Oracle defended this AI developer on X, writing, “We are incredibly excited about our partnership with OpenAI and remain focused on building and delivering the capabilities they need to meet their rapidly growing demand.”
CoreWeave struck a similar tone in a statement to Yahoo Finance, but noted that it has other partners.
“OpenAI is a great partner, but not our only one,” said a CoreWeave spokesperson, adding that the company has a “growing customer base such as Meta Platforms, ….”
