SadaNews – One of the pioneers of artificial intelligence criticized calls to grant rights to the technology, warning that it shows signs of self-protection and that people must be ready to stop it if necessary.
Yoshua Bengio explained that granting legal status to advanced AI systems is akin to granting citizenship to hostile aliens, amid fears that technological developments are far outpacing the ability to regulate them.
Bengio, who is leading an international study on AI safety, added that the excessive belief that chat programs have become conscious “will lead to wrong decisions,” according to the British newspaper The Guardian.
