Nvidia’s quarterly revenue doubles to nearly 0bn as CEO declares ‘golden age’

Nvidia announced on Wednesday that its quarterly revenue had doubled in a year to nearly $100bn. Jensen Huang, the founder and CEO, jubilantly declared that demand is accelerating as the AI industry had reached a “golden age”.

The chipmaker, the most valuable company in the world with a $5tn market cap, brought in $96.2bn in revenue, beating Wall Street expectations of $92bn in the second quarter. That’s 106% more than the company saw in revenue this time last year. The company expects its revenue to continue to grow to $108bn by the end of the third quarter, higher than analysts predicted.

The company saw $89bn in datacenter revenue in the second quarter, a closely watched metric that likewise rose 117% year over year. The chipmaker also posted in $2.22 in earnings per share, surpassing Wall Street expectations of adjusted earnings of $2.09.

“AI has reached its inflection point. It’s doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue,” said Huang.

Still, its stocks dipped in extended trading, as investors look to Nvidia to set the bar for the rest of the AI industry.

As the manufacturer of the building block of many of the biggest AI labs large language models, Nvidia’s earnings reports serve as a proxy for the entire industry.
