From advanced PCB materials to high-density connectors, NVIDIA’s latest MGX ecosystem reveals how the competition for AI infrastructure is expanding far beyond GPUs and HBM.

For much of the past decade, the semiconductor industry’s attention has been concentrated on computing performance. NVIDIA’s dominance was built around increasingly powerful GPUs, high-bandwidth memory, advanced packaging and the CUDA software ecosystem. Yet as artificial intelligence infrastructure evolves from individual servers into rack-scale supercomputers, another constraint is becoming increasingly important: moving data efficiently between thousands of high-performance semiconductor devices.

A recent exhibition display associated with NVIDIA’s MGX ecosystem at the 2026 Open Compute Project (OCP) Global Summit offered an interesting glimpse into this transition. The display featured two technologies: an NVLink PTFE Board and an Ultra Dense Interconnect Cable Cartridge. Alongside the hardware were the names of 13 companies spanning PCB manufacturing, advanced materials, connectors and cable assemblies.

At first glance, these components might seem far less important than NVIDIA’s latest Rubin GPUs. In reality, they represent two complementary approaches to solving one of the most consequential engineering challenges in modern AI infrastructure: how to deliver enormous bandwidth while controlling signal loss, energy consumption, system complexity and manufacturing costs.
