With a host of Nvidia RTX Spark laptops hitting the street today from Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and others, it was inevitable that one would serve as the guinea pig for our first round of testing. Meet the RTX Spark edition of the Asus ProArt P16. (If you need a refresher on the underlying silicon and platform goals of RTX Spark before diving into the numbers, check out Nvidia RTX Spark: Everything You Need to Know Before Our First Tests.)

At PCMag, our laptop testing is defined by repeatable, scientific rigor, which means it’s rare that our testing process itself doubles as an actual experiment. But ever since Microsoft and Nvidia detailed their collaboration at Microsoft’s recent Windows hardware event to bring Nvidia’s AI-capable “Grace Blackwell” hardware to Windows, on a system built as much for AI and agentic tools as for creation and gaming, we’re in the unusual position of trying to figure out our AI testing strategy in public and in real time. The RTX Spark is an innovative platform, primarily because it brings AI capabilities to Windows laptops that, until now, haven’t been mainstream enough to warrant inclusion in our testing.
