Nvidia reportedly moving forward with 9GB versions of the RTX 5060 & RTX 5060 Ti, with some compromises

With no new Nvidia GPUs announced so far this year, it seems more and more likely that the company won’t be launching any truly new GeForce hardware this year. There’s still no sign of RTX 50 Super graphics cards to help squeeze out even more out of the Blackwell architecture, but it’s the other end of the hierarchy that might be getting a boost – the RTX 5060 series.

New reports mimic previous rumors of a 9GB RTX 5050, though we haven’t heard much about that since. In any case, it’s now being suggested that Nvidia is preparing to release 9GB variants of the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti. The former currently ships with just 8GB of VRAM, while the latter is available in 8GB and 16GB versions; the higher VRAM variant has had better sales.

RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 coming with 9GB of VRAM?

According to a report from the Japanese publication Gazlog, the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti will be available in 9GB variants, but with a bandwidth reduction of up to 25%. So, despite the higher memory, gaming performance may be impacted. It’s theorized that the switch to 9GB allows Nvidia to use three GDDR7 chips (3x3GB), rather than the current four (4x2GB) design.
