Nvidia NVDA is expanding its European AI footprint, announcing plans to back four German startups as part of a broader commitment of nearly $10 billion across companies, universities and research institutions in the region.

The chipmaker said it will support Agile Robots, Avelios Medical, Mirelo and Reflex Aerospace, though it did not disclose how much it plans to invest in each company.

The announcement came at the Invest in Germany Summit in Berlin, where Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang argued that artificial intelligence should be viewed as a productivity tool rather than a replacement for human capability.

AI can only augment your capability; it will not replace your capability, Huang told attendees.

The move shows Nvidia is trying to embed itself more deeply into Europe’s emerging AI ecosystem.

The company is also expanding its cooperation with the German federal government and the country’s Industry 4.0 Platform, which brings together government, companies, researchers and trade groups to accelerate industrial AI adoption.

That industrial angle may be particularly important.

Siemens separately unveiled new AI tools built with Nvidia technology at its Erlangen factory. The company said the systems could reduce the engineering work required to prepare production by as much as 85%, while AI-driven production planning could cut costs by up to 20%.
