Nvidia’s chief executive has stressed that artificial intelligence will create jobs as technology companies become increasingly concerned about a public backlash over fears of job losses.
In a blog post, Jensen Huang argued that AI is an “essential infrastructure like electricity and the internet” that will require trillions of dollars to build.
He said the amount of work required to build AI infrastructure was enormous, with factories needing electricians, pipefitters, steelworkers, network engineers, plumbers and operators.
“These are skilled, well-paying jobs, and they are in short supply. You don’t need a doctorate in computer science to be part of this change,” he said.
He countered claims that AI could eliminate many jobs, pointing to the increasing demand for radiologists despite AI being used to read medical scans.
