Semiconductor stocks gained on Wednesday with the PHLX Semiconductor Index (^SOX) rising for a third day in a row.

Shares of AI chip heavyweight Nvidia (NVDA) rose almost 1% in premarket, while AMD (AMD), Broadcom (AVGO), and Intel (INTC) stocks jumped more than 1%.

The move came after SK Hynix (SKHY) saw profits increase sevenfold last quarter. The South Korean memory maker sees a supply shortage for memory heading into 2030 as AI inference surges and adoption shifts from cloud providers to physical AI applications like robotics and autonomous driving.

Shares of peers Micron Technology (MU) and Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) also jumped.

Other movers included storage giant Sandisk (SNDK), which gained more than 4% in premarket. Among semiconductor equipment makers, Applied Materials (AMAT) and Lam Research (LRCX) also rose.

Semiconductor companies have been key beneficiaries of the AI build-out. Concerns over AI spending and neocloud debt weighed on the sector in recent weeks, but improving sentiment has driven chip stocks higher over the past three sessions.
