Nutanix has recently announced its support for the general availability of the Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Hybrid with Nutanix AHV, offering organizations enhanced options for managing where their virtual desktops and data are hosted.

This development allows organizations to operate Azure Virtual Desktop session hosts on-premises while leveraging Microsoft’s cloud-based control plane for essential services such as identity, access, and session brokering. Nutanix has played a significant role from the beginning of the Azure Virtual Desktop Hybrid initiative, participating as an ecosystem partner to incorporate support for Nutanix AHV.

Enhanced Control Over Infrastructure

The hybrid model is tailored for organizations aiming to modernize their desktop delivery while maintaining substantial control over their infrastructure and data. This is particularly significant for regulated sectors where factors such as data residency, digital sovereignty, security, performance, and infrastructure economics dictate workload placement.

Within this hybrid setup, the Azure Virtual Desktop control plane persists in Azure, while the session hosts operate on Nutanix AHV at the organization’s data center.
