Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) Streamlines Container Management

Nutanix recently unveiled its Nutanix Kubernetes Platform (NKP) at the .NEXT event in Barcelona. This platform is designed to simplify the management of modern container-based applications through Kubernetes, aiming to boost innovation by offering a complete cloud-native stack supported by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF).

NKP provides platform engineering teams with a consistent operating model to securely manage Kubernetes clusters across various environments, including on-premises, hybrid, and multi-cloud setups. This makes it easier to deploy containerized and cloud-native applications that can operate seamlessly in diverse environments.

The target audience for NKP is new-generation Kubernetes platform engineering teams, providing enterprise-grade resiliency, day 2 operations, and compliance for modern applications at scale. With NKP, customers can monitor clusters running containers on Nutanix infrastructure and public cloud clusters through a single management interface, reducing complexity and operational expenses. NKP also supports cluster management in non-Nutanix environments, enabling the adoption of cloud-native architectures and fostering faster innovation.

Key features of NKP include integration with Nutanix’s data services portfolio for data-driven applications, simplified Kubernetes management through automation, a complete platform without vendor lock-in compliant with CNCF standards, and multicluster fleet management for unified observability and control across different environments.

NKP is available in three tiers: NKP Starter, NKP Pro, and NKP Ultimate, catering to different levels of cloud-native adoption maturity. NKP Starter is included in Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure, offering turnkey clusters with pure, upstream Kubernetes. NKP Pro adds cloud-native projects for secure and efficient cluster operations, while NKP Ultimate provides fleet management capabilities for clusters in public clouds.

Looking ahead, NKP is part of Nutanix’s Project Beacon initiative, helping customers deploy more containerized and cloud-native applications across various environments. Expected to launch in summer 2024, NKP builds on mature Kubernetes management technologies acquired from D2iQ, supporting enterprises in managing Kubernetes applications and modern data services in public clouds, on-premises, edge environments, and other hypervisors.
