New rules for laid-off workers who clash with bosses after an “unprecedented” trend

The Fair Work Commission is cracking down on disgruntled Australian workers, using artificial intelligence to make unfair dismissal and other claims against their bosses. The workplace watchdog has noted an “unprecedented” increase in its workload and warned that materials created with AI may be false or simply “made up”.

The president of the Fair Work Commission, Adam Hatcher, has now tried to officially regulate the use of generative AI in the cases before him. He released a draft notice outlining new requirements that would apply if someone uses AI to create an application or other documents.

While AI tools can help workers decide whether to apply, Judge Hatcher warned that they can also give them “unrealistically optimistic predictions about their chances of success and likely compensation” and can lead to “disgraceful” results…
