Australia’s long-term success depends on strong digital technology. The Australian government has developed clear expectations for data center and AI infrastructure projects.
The Expectations for data centers and AI infrastructure developers will ensure data center development only occurs where it is consistent with Australia’s interests. This includes supporting Australian jobs, strengthening our energy grid, protecting water security and complying with existing laws on issues such as privacy and security.
The expectations are a result of the National AI Plan and respond to feedback from:
- industry
- Utilities
- States and territories
- Trade unions
- special interest groups.
The expectations help clarify what behavior the government expects from investors, developers and data center operators in Australia. We expect the industry to put Australia’s needs first. This includes areas such as safety, sustainability and community benefits.
