Filmmaker Ben Feldman used AI to set Hillel Slovak’s diary entries to music The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers: Our Brother Hillel
Netflix’s new documentary about the beginnings of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the influence of their founding guitarist Hillel Slovak uses an AI voice-over recording of the late musician reading through his personal diaries.
Director Ben Feldman doesn’t shy away from using artificial intelligence to regenerate the Slovakian voice The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers: Our Brother Hillelincluding a note at the beginning of the film that the sound was digitally reconstructed.
Feldman previously explained that he received the Slovak family’s blessing to use AI and have “Hillel’s voice read his own diaries” because he believed it was “a crucial way to bring his (words) to life.”
