In a wild turn of events, Netflix has killed support for Google Cast on the vast majority of products.
Through its latest mobile app updates, Netflix has all-but-removed the ability to use Google Cast to your TV. Instead, the streamer requires that you use the native app on your TV. Users started noticing the change over the past two weeks or so, and the folks at Android Authority highlighted a support page where Netflix confirms the change.
Netflix says:
Netflix no longer supports casting shows from a mobile device to most TVs and TV-streaming devices. You’ll need to use the remote that came with your TV or TV-streaming device to navigate Netflix.
The support page is a little bit vague, but it seems that devices that don’t have a native app at all will still be able to cast, such as a classic Chromecast, but anything with an app will require you to use the remote and that app instead.
