More than 1,000 Amazon employees warn that rapid adoption of AI is putting jobs and the climate at risk

More than 1,000 Amazon employees have signed an open letter expressing “serious concerns” about AI development, saying the company’s approach seeks “all costs justified, warp speed.” An attack on the powerful technology would harm “democracy, our jobs and the planet.”

The letter, released Wednesday, was signed anonymously by Amazon workers and comes a month after Amazon announced mass layoff plans as the company ramps up the adoption of AI across its operations.

The signatories include employees in a variety of positions, including engineers, product managers and warehouse employees.

The letter reflects broader AI concerns across the industry and was also supported by more than 2,400 employees at companies including Meta, Google, Apple and Microsoft.
