More AI cameras are on the way for WA as nearly 300 drivers are fined every day for not wearing a seatbelt properly in their car, according to new figures.
The advanced technology safety cameras, which went into operation in October and issued 53,000 seatbelt fines in the first six months, have caused controversy as hefty fines were issued for supposedly minor seatbelt adjustments.
Sixty percent of those who appealed their fines successfully had them overturned, but the Department of Transportation said its data showed 99 percent of violations were issued correctly.
