MIT Sues Amazon Over Data Center Computer Chip Security Tech

Amazon Web Services Inc. infringes two patents that cover computer chip security technology invented by a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor, the school alleges.

Srinivas Devadas has been widely recognized for his inventions, which have helped make chips resistant to physical tampering, the school told the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Amazon allegedly uses the technology in its cloud network, including at its data centers and network edge locations, MIT said in its Oct. 9 complaint.

Accused cloud computing services include Amazon CloudFront, AWS Firewall Manager, and AWS Shield. The services infringe US Patent Nos. 7,681,103 …
