Mirantis introduces a budget-friendly open source alternative to VMware with the newest Mirantis OpenStack for Kubernetes

Mirantis has announced the release of Mirantis OpenStack for Kubernetes (MOSK) 24.2, featuring dynamic resource balancing to automate workload distribution and solve performance issues. This new feature, the Distributed Resource Balancer, works similarly to VMware‘s DRS without complex dependencies on other services. MOSK 24.2 is based on OpenStack 2024.1/Caracal and Ceph Reef, with support for OVN for software-defined networking.

MOSK is designed to provide a cloud environment for both cloud-native and traditional applications, offering complete control over application data and automated infrastructure management from hardware provisioning to software configuration. It can manage multiple clouds from a single interface and support hybrid cloud configurations. MOSK is available in different packages with various support options, integrations, VMware application migration services, and training.

A demonstration of the MOSK 24.2 features is scheduled for July 25, with a TCO calculator available to estimate cost savings from migrating to Mirantis OpenStack for Kubernetes. Mirantis aims to provide organizations with digital empowerment by offering complete control over their strategic infrastructure, including virtual machines, containers, Kubernetes, and cloud environments. They work with leading companies like Adobe, DocuSign, PayPal, and S&P Global to deliver a public cloud experience on any infrastructure.
