Microsoft’s New Windows 11 Update Fixes File Explorer’s Annoying ‘White Flash’

Microsoft has rolled out Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7961 (KB 5079382) to users in the Beta Channel as part of testing for version 25H2.

The new update focuses on polishing the user experience and tightening security.

The most relatable fix in this update targets the “white flash” that often occurs when opening new File Explorer windows or tabs, specifically when the app is set to open to “This PC.” According to the Windows Insider Blog, the team has “removed white flash when launching new File Explorer windows or tabs when File Explorer was set to open to This PC.”

But the improvements to File Explorer don’t stop at visuals. You can now use your voice to stay organized. Insiders can now use the Windows key plus H to trigger voice typing while renaming files.
