Microsoft has come to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit with much-needed updates to its lowest-priced Surface PCs. The new second edition Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch offerings should be meaningfully faster while delivering a few additional perks, and they’re joined by a new take on the Surface Mouse.
Both new Surface models use the Snapdragon X2 Plus chip, which runs at a much higher clock speed than the X Plus in the first versions (1.7GHz versus 1.25GHz) and is better for on-device AI at up to 85 trillion operations per second (TOPS) versus 45 before. Microsoft touts “over 60%” faster graphics, efficiency that leads to “all-day” battery life (15.5 hours for the Pro, 22.5 hours for the Laptop), and up to 95 percent faster local AI processing.
