Microsoft has laid out a system that would stop a game at a convenient moment, run an advertisement and reward the viewer with a fresh block of uninterrupted play, according to a patent application the US Patent and Trademark Office published on September 3. Coverage of the filing surfaced in the past week, about six weeks after Xbox began testing free, ad-supported game streaming.

How the Ad-Credit Loop Works

Players would begin with a set amount of ad-free access. As that allowance runs down, the system would look for a suitable pause, halt play and serve video, audio or a still promotion. Finishing it would earn another credit and delay the next stop, Dexerto reports.
