Microsoft has offered another hint about its next-generation Xbox, internally codenamed “Project Helix.” From the sounds of it, the new console will blur the line between console and PC gaming.
Xbox’s new CEO, Asha Sharma, said on X (formerly Twitter) Thursday that the new hardware will “lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games.” This suggests the console will be able to access PC game versions (likely through supported storefronts and the Microsoft ecosystem), turning the console into something closer to a fixed-spec gaming PC suitable for sitting under your TV.
Microsoft hasn’t shared specific details about the next-generation console’s specs, pricing, or launch date. Meanwhile, AMD has confirmed it’s making a custom SoC for the new Xbox, which is slated to come out next year. The console is also expected to be quite costly.
