Microsoft Corp. has introduced Team Copilot, a new version of its Copilot assistant focused on improving group collaboration using artificial intelligence. This meeting assistant can take notes, summarize key points, and track deadlines, targeting corporate customers and set to be available later this year. This announcement was made at Microsoft’s annual developer conference, Build.
Microsoft has made significant investments in generative artificial intelligence, becoming known for its ability to generate and summarize text and images. Following a $13 billion investment in OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, Microsoft has integrated similar AI capabilities into its range of products. The Copilot brand now includes a coding assistant and search engine incorporated into Windows.
In addition to the Team Copilot reveal, Microsoft also provided an update on its processor development efforts. Azure Cobalt 100, the company’s first in-house central processing unit (CPU), is now available in preview for Azure cloud computing service customers. While not as advanced as the chips typically used for AI, the launch of Cobalt marks a significant step in Microsoft’s strategy to compete with major cloud computing rivals like Amazon and Google.
Cloud service providers, including Microsoft, are increasingly looking to leverage their proprietary chips for specialized tasks such as training AI systems. Microsoft’s AI Maia 100 accelerator is currently being tested in one of the company’s data centers, though not yet available to Azure customers. CEO Satya Nadella discussed these developments in an interview with Bloomberg Television.
