Microsoft and Broadcom have announced an expansion of their partnership to support VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) subscriptions on Azure VMware Solution. This collaboration allows customers who own VMware Cloud Foundation licenses to use them on Azure VMware Solution, in addition to their own data centers, giving them more flexibility to meet changing business needs. Azure VMware Solution, operated and supported by Microsoft, offers a fully managed VMware environment that allows customers to easily move their VMware workloads to Azure without the need for extensive reconfiguring. This migration simplifies the process and enables organizations to leverage Azure’s scalable and high-performance cloud infrastructure.
By running VMware Cloud Foundation on Azure, customers can benefit from a cloud operating model that combines the scalability and agility of a public cloud with the security and performance of a private cloud. This setup enables organizations to modernize their IT infrastructure, provide developers with a self-service private cloud experience, and enhance cyber resilience and security. With the added benefit of license portability, customers with eligible VMware Cloud Foundation entitlements can now seamlessly transfer their subscriptions between on-premises environments and Azure VMware Solution, providing them with greater flexibility and mobility.
Additionally, the VMware Rapid Migration Plan offers a comprehensive set of licensing benefits and programs to help reduce the cost and time required for organizations to migrate to Azure VMware Solution. These benefits include price protection through Reserved Instances, savings on Windows Server and SQL Server workloads, free extended security updates for older software versions, and migration support through Azure Migrate and Modernize. Customers who purchase a new Reserved Instance for Azure VMware Solution can also receive additional Azure credits valid for various Azure services.
