Last month, Meta confirmed that the job cuts were planned as part of a major AI-focused restructuring.

“We are doing this as part of our ongoing efforts to run the company more efficiently and to allow us to offset the other investments we are making,” Janelle Gale, Meta’s chief people officer, said in an internal memo to employees at the time.

“This is not an easy compromise and means we have to let go of people who made significant contributions to Meta during their time here.”

The New York Times also reported that an additional 7,000 employees will be assigned to AI-focused roles.

Before the cuts, Meta employed about 78,000 people Just said many were worried and angry that they had essentially trained their computerized successors.
