Mercedes-Benz and NVIDIA are expanding their partnership to develop the next generation of driver assistance and automated driving systems, combining the carmaker’s vehicle software with NVIDIA’s computing and AI platforms.

The collaboration will bring together Mercedes-Benz’s MB.OS operating system and automotive engineering expertise with NVIDIA’s Hyperion computing and sensor architecture, Alpamayo Stack driving software and Halos safety system.

The companies said the technologies would support advanced driver assistance functions, including urban point-to-point driving and automated parking, while providing a foundation for future SAE Level 4 applications, in which vehicles can operate without human intervention within defined conditions.

MB.OS supports new driving functions and over-the-air software updates, while NVIDIA’s Alpamayo Stack provides driving software with AI reasoning capabilities. The system is designed to interpret complex driving situations and support decisions in real-world environments.

NVIDIA Halos adds a further layer of safety measures, including a parallel safety stack intended to provide redundancy and additional safeguards.

Jörg Burzer, Mercedes-Benz Group’s Chief Technology Officer for development and procurement, said the companies had already developed what he described as the first Mercedes-Benz driver assistance system for urban point-to-point driving in Western markets.
