A Melbourne psychiatrist has rejected new patients unless they agreed to let her transcribe the conversations in her sessions using an AI scribe.
AI-powered note-taking tools are becoming increasingly popular in the medical industry – according to the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), two in five general practitioners now use such writing tools.
However, there were also concerns about the security of the data and its possible use by the AI companies, as well as the accuracy of the transcriptions.
In a registration form seen by Guardian Australia, psychiatrist Dr. Hemlata Ranga potential patients’ requirements.
“I consent to the use of AI transcription software (e.g., Heidi Health AI/Microsoft) to assist with note taking during appointments, creating clinical letters, reports, and other clinical documents to support my clinical care,” the form reads.
