The incident happened at 315 Hudson St. in Hudson Square at approximately 2:58 p.m., according to the NYPD. Google occupies nearly 411,000 square feet of office space in the building, according to a 2024 report by the Commercial Observer.
The man suffered burns throughout his body and was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition, police said. No other injuries were reported.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remained under investigation Friday afternoon, according to the NYPD.
A Google spokesperson released the following statement:
“We are aware of an incident that occurred today in the lobby at 315 Hudson, a building we share with other tenants. While the individual appeared to be seeking access to another tenant’s space in the building, we remain in close contact with local authorities. We are grateful to first responders.”
