The Australian National University is rolling back cuts to music and humanities

The Australian National University (ANU) has resumed a major restructuring of its arts and social sciences college after facing backlash from staff, students, politicians and advocacy groups over the implementation of its controversial $250 million cost-cutting plan.
On Tuesday, the ANU published its updated implementation plan for the college after the initial proposal, published in July this year, was widely rejected. These included the closure of the Australian National Dictionary Centre, the Center for European Studies, the Humanities Research Center and the ANU School of Music, as well as job cuts.
In September, days before the resignation of the then ANU vice-chancellor, Professor Genevieve BellAlmost 30 staff at the school stopped working after an internal report warned of mental health risks in their workplace linked to the restructuring.
