Live: David Pocock calls for Labor to ensure a “fair return” from AI data centers

Environment Minister Murray Watts has again this morning defended the government’s budget, accusing the Coalition and One Nation of rejecting measures to raise the cost of living.

The federal government passed the first tranche of its budget measures through the House of Commons last week, which included a $250 Working Australian Tax Offset that will not come into effect until July 2028.

The legislation also includes changes to the capital gains tax credit and negative gearing, as well as an immediate $1,000 tax deduction.

Labor needs the support of the Greens to get the measures through the Senate, but the minor party has not indicated whether it will support them.
