LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — Protesters gathered in downtown Little Rock Wednesday, raising concerns about a proposed Google data center and its potential impact on local water usage.
Demonstrators rallied outside the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers building as the agency begins its environmental review process for the project. The review includes a public comment period, which is already underway.
Those at the protest say the moment is critical, calling for more transparency and consideration before any decisions are made.
Planted feet and signs lined the area outside the Corps office, with messages aimed at drawing attention to the potential effects of the development.
“Do not support Data Centers,” one protester shouted.
Protesters are urging federal officials to take a closer look at how the proposed facility, planned near Sweet Home, could impact water supply, electricity usage, and noise levels in Central Arkansas.
