LOXAHATCHEE (CBS12) — The longtime campground next to Lion Country Safari will close this spring after the property was sold to the family of Oracle co-founder and billionaire Larry Ellison.
The West Palm Beach Lion Country Safari KOA Journey will close on April 30 and will no longer accept new reservations. Guests with existing bookings will receive an automatic refund until February 17th.
In a message to guests, the KOA team thanked generations of visitors who have made the campground a part of their vacations, holiday gatherings and family traditions. Staff described the decision with “gratitude and a heavy heart,” noting that the campers’ laughter and conversation filled the space with “warmth and purpose” for decades.
The campsite has long been known alongside the Lion Country Safari as a unique overnight experience, where guests are often awakened by the sounds of wildlife from the reserve. Over the years it has become a popular stop for RV travelers and snowbirds…
