An interview from earlier this year in which Level-5 CEO and President Akihiro Hino spoke positively about AI, claiming the technology writes 80 percent or more of the studio’s code these days, recently went viral on the Internet. And now Hino has responded and denies that the studio is behind it Professor Layton And Ni no Kuni Games has shifted entirely to AI programming, but also defends generative AI, claiming it will lead to “greater growth” in the industry.
On December 26, Hino published a lengthy response to the online “fuss over AI” and the subsequent spread of a previous interview on social media Clair Obscur lost an award because of the use of the technology. According to Hino, “many gaming companies” are using AI these days, but not all of them are making it public. He also dismissed claims that Level-5 uses genAI to write 80 percent or more of the code in the company’s games.
