A KPMG Australia partner has been fined A$10,000 (£5,200) for using an artificial intelligence tool to cheat on an internal training course on the use of AI.

The unnamed person had to retake the module after uploading the training materials used for the course to an AI platform to help answer exam questions.

KPMG’s monitoring tools detected the activity in August last year and led to an internal investigation which concluded the partner should have a A$10,000 fine deducted from his future earnings.

The incident was one of 28 since July in which KPMG Australia identified an employee using AI to cheat on his training after the company improved its monitoring Systems following widespread fraud scandals.

KPMG has committed to disclosing cases of AI-related misconduct when publishing its annual results and will consider whether employees self-report such cases as part of a broader transparency initiative within the company.
