A sneak peek at Apple’s powerful new AI photography features shows a major departure from the tech giant’s longstanding commitment to photorealism*.
Apple has previously protected the integrity* of photos taken on its phones by limiting what users can do with them. That has changed with the upcoming free iOS upgrades for phones, iPad and Mac devices announced at the annual worldwide developer conference (WWDC26) in California, USA.
Courier Mail digital editor Mark Furler covered the conference, played with the beta version of the upgrade overnight on Wednesday (AEST) and was quite surprised at what users could do.
In the Photos app itself, there were new tools for cleaning up and removing unwanted distractions in images.
For example, if your parents took a photo of you but a chair or object was in the way, they could select the obstacle*, remove it, and fill the space.
