This is one of the latest projects from machining solutions developer ARUM, which is using AI to help Japan’s leading global precision parts manufacturers overcome a labor shortage.
This shortage, which the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has described as “protracted and persistent” since the 2010s, has resulted in demand for manufacturing workers continuing to outstrip supply.
“To address the sharp decline in qualified machinists in Japan and abroad, we have improved our automation technologies and started developing ARUMCODE and TTMC,” said Takayuki Hirayama, founder and CEO of ARUM.
Japan’s precision manufacturing sector is worth about $15 billion at current exchange rates, estimates Marc Einstein, research director at technology research firm Counterpoint Research.
