It’s almost hard to believe but the Nvidia Shield TV is getting another update

It’s hard to believe that Nvidia is still supporting the Shield TV. And don’t get me wrong, we’re not complaining here, but it’s amazing to see a brand go so far when it doesn’t have to. The first model was released nearly 10 years ago, and while it could have just left things as is, the brand has continued to deliver updates in order to refine the software experience.

The latest update is finally getting a wide rollout, according to 9to5Google, with Nvidia making it available to all Shield TV and Shield TV Pro devices. The Shield Experience 9.2.2 update is meant to introduce quality of life changes and make small improvements to the overall experience as well. So if you’re a Shield TV or Shield TV Pro owner, you might want to update your unit as soon as you can.

Unexpected but welcome support

Pulling from the software release notes, the main focus for Nvidia with this update is to make the software “more accessible to people with disabilities.” It was able to accomplish this by making design improvements, while also improving “compatibility with assistive technologies.”

There will now be a pairing alert sound when pairing the Shield Remote and Controller, and the addition of Bounce Keys in order to prevent accidental repeated key presses. Users will also be able to access an “Accessibility Key Repeat” feature as well.
