The two events occurred within four days of each other.
First, US President Donald Trump canceled his planned new executive order on artificial intelligence. It would have given AI developers the opportunity to voluntarily have their new models reviewed by federal authorities before publication.
Why? It turns out he was responding to a call from a well-known tech investor and friend, David Sacks, who thought it was too interventionist. Note that this should be a voluntary system.
“I didn’t like certain aspects of it,” Trump told reporters. “We lead China. We lead everyone, and I don’t want to do anything that gets in the way of that.”
