ABILENE, Texas — A major expansion in West Texas is now taking shape.
IREN, a digital infrastructure company, has partnered with NVIDIA to help build out its Sweetwater data center campus in Fisher County.
“What this brings to the partnership is the ability to apply that architecture to our Sweetwater campus,” said David Shaw, chief operating officer for IREN. “The benefits of that is the ability to bring to market quicker, to our customers, and a system that optimizes the compute power in a much better way. The third thing it gives us is future proofing of the different evolution of computer models that come out, that this architecture will be suitable for future models, as well as the current models of computers.”
As construction continues, IREN said its goal is to create long-term jobs and investment in the area while building what it calls the future of digital infrastructure in West Texas. (IREN)

The company recently energized its 1.4 gigawatt Sweetwater one site, marking a major step in connecting the campus to the ERCOT power grid.
IREN said the project phase will continue expanding through 2027 with more data center buildings expected to go up after that as well.
Shaw said about 300 construction workers are already on site.
