IREN has secured a multi-year agreement to host Perplexity’s AI applications on NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra graphics processors at one of its data-centre sites, the company said Friday — a deal that puts a named customer behind the GPU fleet IREN has spent the past quarter financing and defending.
The arrangement covers the use of IREN’s infrastructure for the customer’s compute workloads. It lands at a moment when investors are less interested in announcements than in evidence: Microsoft’s quarterly capital expenditure, including finance leases, came in at $45.2 billion and fell short of analyst expectations, and media reports said IREN and other neocloud stocks came under pressure as a result. Worries about AI infrastructure spending and the pace of capacity delivery took centre stage.
A Sector Signal, Not a Company Diagnosis
That pressure is a warning shot from the neighbourhood, not proof of delivery problems at IREN itself. The distinction matters. A more cautious valuation of the whole sector can weigh on the share price; whether it also implies an operational problem for IREN has to be assessed separately.
The question at the heart of the debate is how reliably IREN can convert AI compute infrastructure into revenue-generating capacity. The size of a financing does not answer that on its own. What counts for the economic picture is whether the financed equipment is already earning or whether its deployment is still ahead.
