IBM has launched a new platform called IBM Ambient Intelligence, aimed at providing organizations with access to environmental data sets to help them make informed decisions in response to environmental challenges. The platform features global environmental data curated from public and commercial sources, out-of-the-box models and connectors, and alerts to support data integration into critical operations.

One key feature of IBM Environmental Intelligence is its geospatial APIs, which allow developers and data scientists to collect and analyze data on Earth’s surface to predict outcomes and take proactive actions. The platform provides access to public satellite data for weather and climate information, simplifying the process of processing and organizing data sets for analysis.

Additionally, IBM has introduced a pre-trained Geospatial AI Foundation Model, which leverages data from satellite imagery to provide a more complete view of the Earth’s surface. This model reduces the burden of data labeling and allows developers to focus on fine-tuning AI models for specific applications, such as flood detection and tree height estimation.

The platform also offers an above-ground biomass model that helps track carbon in invested biomass, enabling organizations to support sustainability goals. This model can be used to monitor deforestation and track changes in carbon sequestration over time, helping companies demonstrate compliance with regulations such as the EU Deforestation Regulation.

In collaboration with Yara International, IBM is working to provide geospatial data for 100 million hectares of agricultural land worldwide, which can help improve crop yields and prevent deforestation. The platform also offers on-demand historical APIs for predicting future business needs based on past weather data, as well as GHG emissions APIs to calculate internal and supply chain emissions.

Overall, IBM Environmental Intelligence aims to empower data professionals to address climate change and weather challenges with advanced analytics and environmental data sets. The platform provides the tools and insights needed to create sustainable solutions and build more resilient business practices in the face of environmental disruptions.
