A class action lawsuit has been filed against Perplexity, claiming that the service transfers the content of users’ chats to Google and Meta without their knowledge. The document also states that the Incognito Mode does not provide the claimed level of privacy, ArsTechnica writes.

The plaintiffs claim that Perplexity uses advertising trackers, including Meta Pixel, Google Ads, and DoubleClick, which can transmit both individual requests and complete conversations. In some cases, he said, users’ personal information is transmitted along with the chats.

The lawsuit states that the data could be transmitted regardless of whether the user had an account. For unregistered users, the plaintiff claims, links were created through which third-party services could access the entire conversation.

It is also noted that even when using Incognito Mode, data allegedly continued to be transmitted along with identifiers, including emails. The lawsuit calls this mode a “fiction”.

The plaintiffs also claim that the service does not notify users about the use of third-party trackers and does not provide direct access to the privacy policy on the home page.

The case involves Google and Meta as the parties that allegedly received the data. Google said that companies are responsible for the data they transmit through their services, and that Google does not sell personal information and has restrictions on the use of sensitive data in advertising.
