From HP spinoff to AI networking heavyweight
Hewlett Packard Company (New York Stock Exchange: HPE | HPE Price Prediction) was born in November 2015, when the original HP split into a consumer company and the enterprise-focused company we know today. The first few years were a struggle. Management sold the software business to Micro Focus, turned over services to DXC and attempted to refocus on servers, storage and networking. The launch of HPE GreenLake in 2018 started the pivot as a service, but the stock spent most of the late 2010s adrift.
The narrative changed in 2024. CEO Antonio Neri announced a $14 billion acquisition of Juniper Networks in January 2024, which ultimately closed on July 2, 2025, after a challenge from the Department of Justice. Combined with growing demand for AI servers, the deal reshaped the company. In the second quarter of fiscal 2026, network revenue increased 148.2% to $2.69 billion and server revenue increased 32.7% to $5.45 billion.
